As evident many companies are realizing the benefits they can achieve from the transformation of internal processes via performance management, worker enablement and digitization processes. One such area where companies are investing include the worker enablement which is allowing employees to talk to anyone in the organization to become a powerful enabler for knowledge sharing. One such use case is analyzing the connected data to understand the EHS operational effectiveness during mergers and acquisitions. A series of surveys using questionnaire can provide very good insight about the operational practices. Graph data analysis popularity has been increasing over the years owing to fact that they can derive insights into the relations of the people. One such use case is around the knowledge graph in a company operating in multiple locations especially when it is going through mergers and acquisitions. The section below highlights features of SAP HANA Graphs and how to carry out the analysis. 

SAP HANA has built in processing services such as spatial, graph, predictive, search, text analysis, streaming analytics.  These business functions, application services, integration and quality services make up the complete HANA platform. SAP HANA has built in Graph Engine i.e., native graph abstraction within SQL for multimodal processing, which inherits conventional database characteristics like security and operational concepts.

In social network if you are interested to analyze the relationship between the people, there are many approaches like writing graphical SQL operations using complex joins or using graph database technology, which uses primary database connecting the data to the graph QL database  using federated query processing. . The SAP HANA Graphs consists of various algorithms like Neighborhood search, (GET_NEIGBORHOOD), shortest path one to all and all to one and strongly connected components. There are ways to extend the SAP HANA Graph functionality. The algorithms can be executed SAP HANA Data explorer, SAP HANA Web IDE, Calculation scenario or using Graph Script. There are other features which are possible which are based on spatial analysis techniques like full text search. Checking the consistency of the data is checked by analyzing the uniqueness, dangling edges, which are checked against the person id and edges tables.

There are modeling approaches for connecting data either using RDF framework or using property graphs. HANA uses the property graphs. SAP HANA uses OpenCypher for supporting the pattern matching. Pattern matching is nothing but sequence with filters on vertex and edge properties or graph analysis using algorithms like link detection, shortest path.  OpenCypher is a declarative querry language for graphs introduced by Neo4j. OpenCypher querry searches for subgraphs matching the match clause and optional clause like where clause and returns with return clause.

Based on the collected data on knowledge areas and person contacts  can be analyzed to understand relationship like which subject area who is expert and connected to whom. There are various types of data which can be loaded for graph analysis like relational data, node based data, edge based or sometimes graphy data. Once the data is collected, information about the knowledge area like demographic information of the survey respondents and their expertize in subject area can be assessed. The organizational indicators like in and out degree, betweeness, closeness, centrality and beweeness. Graphviewer can be used to explore the data. .

In detailed assessment of workers connections and knowledge sharing will help organizations in developing strategies to manage the processes. Some of the patterns like advice type, awareness type, trust, information and issue network types will help the companies in studying the centrality and planning methods to manage the operational practices to manage the companies post acquisitions / mergers.
